Cabildo to Invest 380,000€ in Improvements in the Heritage and Environment of Lobos

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura is to invest 380,000€ in several projects designed to improve the surroundings and environment of Isla de Lobos and to open a Center of Interpretation for Visitors of the Natural Park of Dunes of Corralejo and Isla de Lobos, according to an official notice given to the press.

The Advisor of Environment, Natalia Évora, stated that the work is “within a Governing Plan of Use and Management of the Natural Park, which began in previous years to improve the area.

They are going to look for a balance between the attraction of Nature Tourism and visitor interest, and the preservation of the natural ecosystems, environment and importance of the area”.

Their most important task, is to include the restoration of the lime ovens, water storage areas and salt mines on the island. The reconstruction of the area will show the lifestyle and heritage of previous human inhabitants.

Three lime ovens will be restored - Oven the Great Watchtower (Horno de la Atalaya Grande), Oven of the Lagunitas (Horno de Las Lagunitas) and Oven of the Limekiln (Horno de la Calera)
