Another new Airline for Fuerteventura

After five months courting industrialists and Majorcan politicians, a group of ex-pilots of the Futura Airline is making arrangements to start a new airline in the Canary Islands.

Gregorio Perez, President of The Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura, has stated that negotiations will involve Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

Business associations for the new airline are prepared to guarantee 6 million euros to the project, with workers contributing 1.5 million euros.

The airline will start with 2 planes, and 125 employees, hopefully doubling in number by the third year of operation. Flights will concentrate exclusively on travellers from the United Kingdom and Germany.

It is not yet clear if the airline will have its home base in Gran Canaria or Fuerteventura.

The Head of Tourism of the Canary Islands, Rita Martin, had meetings yesterday in London with representatives of Thomas Cook and TUI, with the purpose of increasing the number of tourists coming from the United Kingdom over the summer season.

New Flights to Fuerteventura & Lanzarote

Fuerteventura and Lanarote are to receive flights from Manchester and Gatwick by Kissflights.com

Their schedules start from 1st April (no joke!) and are online now. Some of the prices don't look too bad, so this may be an additional option for travellers.

The Green, Green Grass of ..... Fuerteventura!

We have been having a lot of rain on Fuerteventura since November last year. This is VERY uncharacteristic of the island as it is the driest of all the Canary Islands!

People who have been born and brought up here have never seen the weather like this - at first is was a novelty for them, but now they hate the rain as much as the rest of us!

It has however, transformed the countryside of Fuerteventura into green and colourful landscapes. Grassy shubs and wild flowers like the daisy-type with white and yellow heads, and lilac bell-shaped flowers smile at the sun and sway in the breeze.

Luckily, it seems to rain mostly at night so the days still remain bright and clear and tourists are returning home with good suntans.
